JCEDC has about 60 Task Force & Committee members dedicated to different aspects of economic development. From small business assistance to major infrastructure planning, JCEDC is always working to Grow Johnson County! Click on any Task Force or Committee below to learn more about their objectives.
As the Talent Supply side, this task force will work in concert with multiple partners such as, but not limited to, educators and the West Central Workforce Investment Board’s Sector Strategies and Subcommittees to identify and implement new alliances, new models and best practices in the regional and local talent growth, retention and attraction initiatives. This may include, but not limited to: (1) understanding occupational and demographic data analysis; (2) Assessing qualifications, skills and abilities of current workforce; (3) identifying the qualifications, skills and abilities needed for the workforce of tomorrow; and (4) identifying demand-driven workforce gaps.
This task force will be working with multiple federal, state, regional and local partners to assess and improve the Johnson County infrastructure “product” for new and expanding business. This may include, but not limited to: (1) understanding of the infrastructure needed for the competitive product; (2) knowledge of the partners and resources; (3) assessing and compiling maps and data that define the current infrastructure; (4) working with partners to make needed infrastructure improvements to potentially include legislative initiatives.
There are two subcommittees of the Infrastructure & Development Task Force: (1) Certified Sites Committee and (2) Broadband Initiatives Committee
This task force will be comprised of relevant stakeholders, including existing entrepreneurs, businesses, financial institutions, professionals, community philanthropists, etc. The group can help drive innovation initiatives, help to create entrepreneurial culture in Johnson County, and determine the gaps in programming or available resources. The group will then use this information to develop priorities around programming, funding, capacity building, and partnerships. This group should consider the development of an Innovation Competition or grant program for entrepreneurs perhaps something similar to "Made in Missouri” but for Johnson County businesses.
This committee will develop an understanding of the types of attraction and expansion projects that have been targeted by the Ady Advantage report, prioritize these targets and identify specific incentives to close the deal. The group will also be responsible for educating city and county leaders on economic development incentives and expanding the EEZ coverage for Johnson County beyond Phase One, effective July 2016. The group will compile incentive policies that integrate the targeted industries and lays out specific framework for incentive allocation and project approval based on the type of project and its relative priority and desires of the public body’s leadership.
The Committee responsible for the approval and oversight of the JCEDC Microloan Program.
